The Eastern Washington Institute for Black History and Culture is dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and sharing the rich history and cultural contributions of Black communities in Eastern Washington.
Our collection includes extensive materials documenting Black migration via railroad from Katy, Texas to Pasco, Washington—a journey that shaped communities throughout the Pacific Northwest. We preserve stories of contributions to the Manhattan Project, regional development, and the building of lasting communities.
While Black history remains our core focus, we welcome all visitors to explore these stories and their connections to our shared regional heritage. Through research, education, and community engagement, we honor the past while inspiring future generations.
